FAQ
Below are some of the common questions that ICHF have been recently asked.
Q. Can anyone attend the conference? A. Yes. It is important to bear in mind that this is an International Conference on the History of Freemasonry. It is not a Masonic Conference (that is one where Freemasons gather to discuss Freemasonry in their own way). Members of the public have already made bookings - which is a pleasant surprise to all at ICHF.
Q. What is the cost? A. The registration fee is £250 for three days and which includes: - Attendance at all Scientific Sessions from 29th - 31th May 2009 - Attendance at the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception - Tea/Coffee and Lunch at official breaks - Delegate Bag, Abstract Book and other assorted conference materials - Delegate Badge - Certificate of Attendance - VAT @ 17.5% - whilst this may seem expensive consider that other bodies (accountants, physiatrists, and 'spoon benders') charge considerably more for subjects far less interesting that Freemasonry!
Q. Who will be presenting papers? A. The exact details have not been decided but some of the world's foremost historians in this field will be attending. Further information will be posted on this web site once details have been finalised.
Q. If I want to suggest a a topic to be presented at the conference what do I do? A. Any one can submit a proposal, preferably by e-mail, and those suitable will be selected by an independent Academic Committee for presentation at the conference. For more details please go to the Contacts Page. The deadline for submissions has not yet been decided but is likely to be 31st May 2008. There is however, no reason whatsoever, if you intend to submit a proposal, not to do so now. For details as to how to do that click here or on the previous link.
Q. How will proposals be assessed and selected? A. All proposals will be the subject of a process known as 'blind peer review'. All proposals are submitted to the Conference organiser Northern Networking, a company which is completely independent of the Academic Committee. Northern Networking will remove all information that might identify the author and then send the proposals on to the Academic Committee who will assess the proposals. All those who submit proposals, will be notified by Northern Networking as to whether or not their proposal has been accepted or rejected (or very occasionally asked to be further rewritten or otherwise improved) on behalf of the Academic Committee. This process ensures that the selection/rejection process is entirely independent. The actual dates for submission and acceptance/rejection will be posted here as soon as possible.
Q. How easy is it to travel to Edinburgh? A. Edinburgh is now very accessible by all forms of transport especially by rail and air. For a map of the city centre showing the location of Freemasons' Hall please click here or on the previous links.

Although primarily a forum for academics studying any of the various aspects of Freemasonry any one can attend the conference. Indeed it would be the ideal opportunity for those interested in but not necessarily actively studying the subject to hear the latest research in the field. To register your interest please send an e-mail to the conference organisers at: ICHF@glasconf.demon.co.uk
